Exvision Raises Funding Round from Mirai Creation Fund and Intel Capital

New funding supports global business expansion in high-speed vision control technology


Tokyo, June 29, 2017 – Exvision Corporation (HQ: Tokyo, Japan. CEO: Akio Fujii) a high-speed vision development platform and application systems developer, today announced the closing of a financing round led by Mirai Creation Fund, invested by Toyota Motor Corporation and others and operated by SPARX Group Co., Ltd. (SPARX), and Intel Capital, Intel Corporation’s global investment organization. The size and terms of the funding round were not disclosed.


The funds will be used to enhance technology development for Exvision’s High Speed Vision Development Platform and to deepen the penetration of its application system portfolios via expanded global sales and marketing efforts.


Exvision’ High Speed Vision Development Platform consists of High Speed Vision sensor running at 1,000fps and high speed processing system based on FPGA. Its evaluation kit - the evaluation board and SDK - is under development and planned to be released in Q4 2017. And Exvision Gesture System is based on the Vision Processing Unit (VPU) platform from Movidius, an Intel company.  The addition of Mirai Creation Fund and Intel Capital as strategic investors will help Exvision gain access to a powerful network of potential business partners, technology ecosystems, industry advisors, and customers.

Exvision is a spin-off of the University of Tokyo’s Ishikawa-Watanabe Laboratory, established with the aim of implementing the Lab’s technologies in various industries. About Mirai Creation Fund

The Mirai Creation Fund began its operations in November 2015 with SPARX Group Co., Ltd. (SPARX) as an operator, invested by Toyota, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and SPARX with a total investment capital of 13.5 billion yen. As of end of May 2017, the fund has received investments from 19 companies including the three companies. The Fund targets to invest in enterprises and projects that possess innovative technologies in the core fields of artificial intelligence (Al), robotics, technologies to help achieving a hydrogen-based society, as well as other related projects. At the end of May 2017, AUM reaches 36.5 billion yen. The fund has invested in approximately 30 companies in the US, the UK, Israel and Japan.
